Club championship a great success

Dear club members,

What a really fantastic day Saturday’s invitation tournament turned out to be.  There were around 100 entries between the two events (Red Belts and Yellow Belts) and across both groups we had some excellent results and saw some fantastic judo.

Club members excel at the weekend tournaments

On Saturday two young club members travelled to Tonbridge to take part in the Bushido Judo Club Easter Championships and both Erith Baisley and Annalise Carew came away with Gold medals after flying through their pools with big throws and ippons throughout.  Two excellent results for two of the clubs youngest players so well done to both of them.

Great results at Kent Orange Belt and under competition

Six Waldersalde judoka attended the Kent Red, Yellow & Orange Belt Rumble at Herne Bay Judo Club on Sunday 12th February, and all of them came away with either a gold or silver medal after some excellent performances.

Commonwealth Judo success for Walderslade judoka & Little Kano night this Friday

Congratulations to Walderslade Coaches Ranj Atwal and Eddie Orgee who both competed in the Grand Masters category of the 2012 Commonwealth Judo Championships in Cardiff on Monday.  The event saw strong contingents from all of the home nations in attendance along with large delegations from Canada, Australia and South Africa and many other Commonwealth countries.

Ranj competed in the M4 Over 100kg event and took a well-earned Silver medal, whilst Eddie competed in the M5 U66kg event and gained a Bronze in a tough field.

Fighting Chance programme hailed as huge success

Dear Club Members,

Medway Fighting Chance programme

It'is always nice to be able to report on a success story and that's just what the Fighting Chance Inclusion Programme has been deemed to be.  Back in March 2011 we were pleased to be asked to work with Kent Police and Kent Fire & Rescue on an inclusion programme called Medway Fighting Chance.  This required the club to deliver a set of 12 week courses of judo to pre-selected groups of young people between the ages of 13 and 17 from within the local area.

Dojo Project - Help needed from senior members

Dear Senior Club Members

As the plan to set up a permanent judo centre at the Greenacre School gathers pace we are looking for assistance from club members, friends or family who may have relevant skills or time to donate.  So far, we have had a small group of people working on the project but as things move ahead and more jobs need to be done we may need some additional support.

Sally gains 2nd Dan

Dear Club Members,

It is with great pleasure we can announce that Sally Elcome passed her final assessment for promotion to 2nd Dan Black Belt last weekend.  Sally had a final couple of sections of theory to complete for ther promotion assessment and during our International Training Event last weekend, Dermot Heslop and Kerry Finney kindly agreed to carry this out after the judo sessions had finished.  Well done to Sally for a very overdue promotion.
