Gold medals all round at Kent Kyu Grade Championships

It was smiles and Gold medals all round as 2015 got off to a flying start at the Kent Kyu Grade Open Championships held at Dartford on Sunday. Following some superb displays of attacking judo all three judoka who train with us at Walderslade Judo Club earned themselves a top slot on the podium.

2015 gets off to a flying start

Judo classes started again for our 2015 season on Friday 9 January and the clubs Coaches welcomed everyone back from the short Christmas break.  Even though a number of our regular members were missing on our first night back, there was still a great turnout across all of the junior classes and everyone looked enthusiastic and pleased to be back on the tatami (judo mat).

November continues to be busy for Walderslade Judo Club

Club event for World Judo Day a huge success

The club organised a 2-Day Half Term Judo Course to coincide with World Judo Day on Tuesday 28 October.

The course was held at the Greenacre Academy and saw full class of 30 complete beginners from the age of 5 to 12 try judo for the first time ever. The clubs’ Coaches were supported by a handful of existing junior club members who came along to help out and be partners to the beginners. The event was a great success and the youngsters all worked hard throughout the two day event.

Club members reap in the medals

The last few weeks have been a really busy time for Walderslade Judo Club members.  The club saw its largest entry to the British Masters Open Championships in Kidderminster on 18 October, with 5 Walderslade members and two Sittingbourne Judo Club judoka who train with us taking part.

The results were fantastic with those taking part bringing back 5 medals between them and four judoka earning a place in the British Masters Judo Squad because of their medal placing.  A really outstanding result for the club.

The schools may have closed for the summer but its already becoming a busy time for Walderslade Judo Club.

AGM and social event report

Dear Club Members,

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who came long to the club AGM and social event last Friday at Rochetser Kings Sports Centre.  The club's Committee all thought it had been an excellent event and a great opportunity for everyone to get together outside of the dojo.

Gold medals for club members at Kent International

Kent International Championships

The very last Kent International Championship took place at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on 26 & 27 June and it was a really superb event once again. Walderslade had two fighters in the event, Liam McDonagh Brown and Charlotte Jenman and both of them came away with Gold medals and Kent International titles to show for their hard work and effort.

Great results at Kent Closed Championship

Sunday 6 April saw 11 club members travel to Dartford for the annual Kent Closed judo championship and once again our judoka did really well.  There was a good turnout across most of the categories, although there were a lack of players in some of the junior groups and the senior ladies were once again under represented.

Christmas Championships & Awards Night results

It was great to see so many junior club members take part in our annual end of year Christmas Championship on the clubs last night of the year, Friday 13 December.  The team event saw some great matches and some excellent throws, just demonstrating the talent and skill of some of our young judoka.

Team events always produce a great atmosphere in judo and it was just the same at this event, with team members cheering and encouraging each other loudly during the competition.
