Reminder about smoking on school premises

Dear Club Members,

We, along with all groups operating from Greenacre Academy, have received a polite reminder that smoking is prohibited at all times on the school grounds.  Comments have been made about cigarette remains being left around the school and the fact that smoking on the school premises is bot allowed at any time.

Club closed this Monday 13 July & summer opening dates

Dear Club Members,

Don't forget the club will be closed this coming Monday (13 July) due to a large event taking place at the school.  We will be open as normal on Friday 9th so why not swap your night if you only normally train on a Monday. Check the clubs website for Friday class times.

Holland trip a great success

Twenty three of us travelled to Holland over the weekend of 13 and 14 June as part of our ongoing exchange programme involving Dutch club Mahorakan and French club Monsois, from Lille.  We travelled over on Friday evening, staying in Dunkirk overnight before driving the final 3 hours into Holland the next morning.  We arrived just in time for the first judo session of the day, which was led by former Dutch Champion and Dutch Olympian, Rob Henneveld who runs the Mahorakan club.

Fantastic results at High Wycombe Masters

Walderslade's senior fighters had a fantastic day at the High Wycombe Masters event on Saturday, coming away with 5 medals in all, including 2 Gold's.  The Masters events are specifically for those judoka aged 30 years and older and are a great way to continue in competitive judo well into your later years.  However, the events are by no means easy and attract a high standard of participant.

Walderslade's 'Tough Mudder' needs your support

Over this coming weekend, one of Walderslade's senior Dan Grades and British Masters Squad member, Mark Robertson will be completing a 'Tough Mudder' race as a member of the Pfizers fundraising team.

The 'Tough Mudde'r challenges are gruelling events and Mark needs all of your support.  The Pfizer team is raising money for charity and anything no matter how small that you would like to donate would be more than appreciated.

To donate please go to www.eventbrite.com/teams/pfizers-tough-mudders/1091429

We are pleased to be able to announce that the proposed club trip to Holland to train with Mahorakan Topjudo, who visit us in Walderslade each November, has now been confirmed.  We are hoping the French club from Lille will also be attending.

Walderslade gains three new Kent Champions

Seven club members took part in the annual Kent Closed Judo Championships at the weekend and three of them finished the day as new Kent Champions.  Read on for the competition report or visit our website news page or log on to our Facebook page for photos and videos from the event.

The Gold medal performances came from Rayna Jobson, Thomas Ledger and Emma Summers.

Club fees to increase as from 1st May

We hope you are all enjoying your Easter holidays and have made the most of the additional Bank Holidays and the welcome sunshine.

This brief club update is to let members know about an increase in our session fees that was agreed by the club’s Committee at it last meeting and which come into effect as from 1 May 2015.

This will be the first increase in fees for 5 years and only the second increase in the last 10 years and is in response to the rise in hall hire costs as well as the extended training times of the senior class.
