Friday night judo re-opens tomorrow (20 January)

The club finally re-opens from the Christmas break and snow closures as from tomorrow.  We hope to see you all there, the same place at the same times, to get 2017 off to a great start.

We already have an exciting weekend of judo coming up with some of our juniors competing in the Southern Area Trials for the British Schools Championships in Gillingham on Saturday and a number of our seniors competing in the Kent Kyu Cup in Dartford on Sunday.

Good luck to everyone and we hope to see you all tomorrow.

Club closed tonight due to icy conditions

Please note that we have been contacted by Greenacre Academy and advised that because of severe icy conditions in Walderslade the Greenacre Academy is closed today and all lettings for the evening being cancelled.  We aplogise for this closure this evening and hope to see you all next week, when hopefully the what must be near artic conditions in Walderslade may have disappeared.

2017 re-opening dates

Hi All

Happy New Year to all our members and readers.

Just a quick last minute reminder to everyone who may have missed the announcements at the end of last year, that the club opens again as from Monday 9th January, so we will be closed again this evening.  This is due to the building works going on within the school.

We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 9th January or next Friday, 13 January.

Friday 16 December club night cancelled

It is with great disappointment that we have to advise everyone that our end of your Christmas Championships & Games Evening and Awards Ceremony has had to be canceled this Friday.  The school have notified us at the last minute that the much needed works to the hall floor are commencing at 3pm on Friday and not as originally planned on the Saturday morning after our event.

This means that the school have canceled all lettings and our event has been one of those to be affected.

Chritsmas championship & Prize-Giving Night - 16 December 2016

It's that time of the year again and once more we will be holding our annual Christmas Championships & Prize-Giving event.  This year's event will be on Friday 16 December and the closing date for booking-in is Monday 12 December.  The fun starts at 5:30pm on 16 December regardless of what class you normally attend and the event should be finished by 8pm.  Please wear your judo suit as there will be a judo competition as well as fun games but bring a santa hat if you have one for afterwards.

World Championship medal for Walderslade club member

Three club members traveled to the USA earlier this month to compete in the World Judo Championships - Veterans 2016 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Almost 1,300 of judo's toughest players over the age of 30 descended upon the Fort Lauderdale Convention Centre for the 4 day event and one of our club members emerged with a fantastic Bronze medal, being the first time any of our club members has ever taken a medal at a World Championship level event.

New Backnumber (back patch) order and Club Championships

Judo suit Backnumbers

Just a quick reminder to all members that our latest order for Backnumbers (back patches) is due to be sent off at the end of next week.  If you would like to order a Backnumber then just add your details to the list held at Reception by 9:00pm next Friday as we will be sending the order off next Saturday morning.  We need to know what you want written on the Backnumber, how many you want and which style you would like (club or GBR).

Volunteers Needed and new video resourses

Dear Parent/Carer

Volunteers Needed

We are currently looking for volunteers to help cover the front desk on club nights. This will be primarily on Monday's, but on occasions you may be asked if you could cover the front desk when needed on some Friday's as well.

Duties will include:

·         Setting up the front desk and packing some items away at the end of the junior classes

New Club Squad structure to be introduced

Dear club members

It is with pleasure that I can announce we will be introducing a 'Club Squad' structure for our junior section.  The idea will be to provide any junior players interested more in the competitive side of judo with the skills and ability to take part in more and higher level competition.  Walderslade has already had juniors who went on to win medals at British Championships level and beyond and we are now seeking to put an even for structured process in place for those youngsters interested in developing this side of their judo more.

Fancy a fitness class with a difference?

Did you know that apart from it's normal Monday and Friday night judo classes, Walderslade Judo Club also runs a weekly, hour long fitness class in the main hall at the Greenacre Academy.

Samantha Riley, one of the clubs Coaches, runs the class, which is based on judo related movements and circuit training and is a great supplement for those who are training in judo but is also suitable for those who would like to get or keep fit but who don't want to get involved in learning the combat side of judo.
