Volunteers Needed and new video resourses

Dear Parent/Carer

Volunteers Needed

We are currently looking for volunteers to help cover the front desk on club nights. This will be primarily on Monday's, but on occasions you may be asked if you could cover the front desk when needed on some Friday's as well.

Duties will include:

·         Setting up the front desk and packing some items away at the end of the junior classes

New Club Squad structure to be introduced

Dear club members

It is with pleasure that I can announce we will be introducing a 'Club Squad' structure for our junior section.  The idea will be to provide any junior players interested more in the competitive side of judo with the skills and ability to take part in more and higher level competition.  Walderslade has already had juniors who went on to win medals at British Championships level and beyond and we are now seeking to put an even for structured process in place for those youngsters interested in developing this side of their judo more.

Fancy a fitness class with a difference?

Did you know that apart from it's normal Monday and Friday night judo classes, Walderslade Judo Club also runs a weekly, hour long fitness class in the main hall at the Greenacre Academy.

Samantha Riley, one of the clubs Coaches, runs the class, which is based on judo related movements and circuit training and is a great supplement for those who are training in judo but is also suitable for those who would like to get or keep fit but who don't want to get involved in learning the combat side of judo.

Christmas Championship and Games Night

Even though we have only just finished organising one of our most successful International Training Camps to date, our hard working volunteers and Coaches are already hard at it planning for our last event of the year.

We will be holding a special Team Competition & Games Night to finish the year off on a high note and celebrate the starting of the Christmas holidays.

Club launches its own YouTube Channel

We wanted to let you all know that we have now set up our own club YouTube Channel and we wanted to let you all know how to find it.  We have placed a link on the clubs website page (www.waldersladejudo.co.uk) and hopefully the link below will also take you there.

We have only uploaded a few videos so far, but hope to add more as time goes on.  You never know what we might dig up from our archives so keep checking back, you never know, you may be featured on there one day !

Club members compete at World Judo Championships

Four of our regular club members traveled to Amsterdam last week to compete in the World Judo Championships - Veterans.  The event attracted over 1,300 of the worlds top veterans (30 years plus) judo players and our fighters had to be there from 21 and 24 September.

This is the most important event any of our club members have taken part in and the chances of coming home with a medal was always going to be slim.  They all gave it their best shot and came away having had a great experience and having learned a number of useful lessons.

Reminder about smoking on school premises

Dear Club Members,

We, along with all groups operating from Greenacre Academy, have received a polite reminder that smoking is prohibited at all times on the school grounds.  Comments have been made about cigarette remains being left around the school and the fact that smoking on the school premises is bot allowed at any time.

Club closed this Monday 13 July & summer opening dates

Dear Club Members,

Don't forget the club will be closed this coming Monday (13 July) due to a large event taking place at the school.  We will be open as normal on Friday 9th so why not swap your night if you only normally train on a Monday. Check the clubs website for Friday class times.

Holland trip a great success

Twenty three of us travelled to Holland over the weekend of 13 and 14 June as part of our ongoing exchange programme involving Dutch club Mahorakan and French club Monsois, from Lille.  We travelled over on Friday evening, staying in Dunkirk overnight before driving the final 3 hours into Holland the next morning.  We arrived just in time for the first judo session of the day, which was led by former Dutch Champion and Dutch Olympian, Rob Henneveld who runs the Mahorakan club.

Fantastic results at High Wycombe Masters

Walderslade's senior fighters had a fantastic day at the High Wycombe Masters event on Saturday, coming away with 5 medals in all, including 2 Gold's.  The Masters events are specifically for those judoka aged 30 years and older and are a great way to continue in competitive judo well into your later years.  However, the events are by no means easy and attract a high standard of participant.
